Huangjiang Meitang Martyrs' Park

Huangjiang Meitang Martyrs' Park is located in Yuangang, Tianxin Village, Huangjiang Town, with GPS coordinates: 22°50'00.5", 113°58'20.6", at an elevation of 25 meters. This is a small garden-style cemetery built to commemorate the martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives during battles such as those in Huangjingkeng and Meitang in the War of Resistance Against Japan.

On March 31, 1944, over 1,000 troops from the 134th Regiment of the 45th Division of the puppet army attacked the Third Battalion of the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces stationed in Huangjingkeng Village, Huangjiang. With the support of the Fifth Battalion stationed in Changshankou and the militia self-defense forces, the Third Battalion defeated the puppet troops, annihilating two companies. The Third Battalion of the Dongjiang Column lost one soldier. On May 7 of the same year, over 500 troops from the Kato Battalion of the Japanese army stationed in Zhangmutou along the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway launched a surprise attack on the Dongjiang Column's leadership headquarters stationed in Meitang. On May 8, the Third Battalion, with the support of the Fifth Battalion, the Dongguan Battalion, and the militia, repelled the invading enemy, killing or wounding nearly 100 Japanese soldiers. In this battle, the Independent Squadron of the Dongjiang Column suffered over 30 casualties, including the political commissar of the Independent Squadron, Li Zhong (also known as Zhong Ruochao), who died a heroic death.

In August 1963, the Huangjiang People's Commune collected some of the martyrs' remains and established a martyrs' cemetery and memorial monument in Yuangang, Tianxin Village. In October 1996, the Huangjiang Town People's Government renovated the cemetery, creating Meitang Martyrs' Park. The martyrs' park covers an area of approximately 4,800 square meters. On either side of the main entrance stand two gate piers covered with golden glazed tiles. The entrance faces a wide, straight memorial path lined with lush pines and cypresses. At the end of the path, three red stone steps lead up to the memorial monument. The monument is white, square-shaped, covering an area of 520 square meters. The memorial tower is 10 meters high, built from granite in a rectangular shape, with the inscription "Revolutionary Martyrs Monument" and a commemorative epitaph on the front, and the phrases "Their heroic spirit lives on forever" and "Tribute to the Revolutionary Martyrs" on the back. The entire cemetery is enclosed by a wall topped with yellow glazed tiles, surrounded by shady trees, creating a serene atmosphere.

In April 2008, the martyrs' park was designated as a Dongguan Patriotic Education Base by the Dongguan Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee. In April 2010, after review and approval by the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, it was announced as a Dongguan CPC History Education Base.
