Huangjingkeng Battle Site

The Huangjingkeng Battle Site is located to the north of Huangjingkeng Village (formerly known as "Huangjingkeng") in Huangjiang Town. To the east is Wanghou Mountain, to the south is Huangjingkeng Village, to the west is Dalang Dashiling, and to the north is Dalang Fengshan. On March 31, 1944, over 1,000 troops of the 134th Regiment, 45th Division of the puppet army stationed in Dalang attacked the Third Battalion of the Dongjiang Column stationed in Huangjingkeng Village, Meitang Township. Early in the morning, the puppet troops aggressively advanced toward Huangjingkeng. The Third Battalion deployed a small squad on the hills to the northwest of Huangjingkeng to conduct a skirmish tactics against the approaching enemy, wearing them down and gradually luring them into Huangjingkeng. Upon realizing the village was empty, the puppet troops hastily retreated northward. At that moment, the main force of the Third Battalion, which had been lying in ambush on the hills southwest of Huangjingkeng, launched a fierce attack from the left flank, while the main force of the Fifth Battalion struck from the right flank. The two forces executed a pincer movement against the enemy. Under heavy fire cover, the officers and soldiers charged forward bravely. The anti-Japanese self-defense teams and militiamen from Meitang Township also climbed surrounding hills to open fire on the enemy. To cover their retreat, the puppet troops dispatched a company to seize Fengshan to the northwest. A squadron of the Third Battalion cut off the retreat route of the enemy on Fengshan and, with the coordination of the self-defense team and militiamen, encircled them. Meanwhile, the Third and Fifth Battalions pursued the retreating enemies from both flanks. The puppet troops were thrown into chaos, fleeing desperately for their lives, while the anti-Japanese guerrillas relentlessly chased after them. As the battle continued into the afternoon, a squadron of the Fifth Battalion flanked the enemy from Huangjiang Market, cutting off their rear forces and annihilating two companies of the enemy in the area north of Huangjingkeng. The anti-Japanese guerrillas chased the enemy to the Huangjiang River, where most of the soldiers threw their weapons and ammunition into the river and fled back to Dalang, wading across the river in disarray. The Third Battalion then returned to Fengshan and eliminated the surrounded enemy there. With this, the battle ended in victory. A total of two companies of the puppet army were wiped out, with 20 killed, 15 wounded, and 28 captured. The guerrillas also seized three light machine guns and over 100 rifles.

The Huangjingkeng Battle marked the first instance where the Dongjiang Column successfully employed a combined tactic of guerrilla and mobile warfare to inflict major losses on the enemy.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Huangjingkeng was renamed from Huangjingkeng, and the original site of the Huangjingkeng Battle was preserved intact.
