Shixia Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Shixia Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located on Boluo Ridge in Shixia Village, Dalang Town, with GPS coordinates: 22°55'26.8"N, 113°58'13.9"E, at an elevation of 37 meters.

In the winter of 1945, a unit of the First Detachment of the Dongjiang Column, active west of the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway, was subjected to a major offensive by the Nationalist army. The commanding officers organized a breakout, and the battle was extremely fierce. The guerrilla commander ordered the junior squad to seize the high ground of Shilong Ridge to cover the retreat of the main force. Facing enemies dozens of times their number, the squad leader raised his arm and shouted, “Comrades, charge!” The young soldiers fought bravely and raced ahead, tenaciously holding back the enemy assault. Two young fighters (names and hometowns unknown) fearlessly charged into battle. Just as they reached the mountainside, a volley of bullets pierced their chests. They fell on the hillside, giving their young lives—having been only thirteen or fourteen years old at the time.

The martyrs’ remains were originally buried on Shilong Ridge, their bones placed in earthenware jars. In 2001, when Shilong Ridge was being developed, the village committee built the Martyrs' Monument on Boluo Ridge behind the village in memory of the two young fighters who died there that winter. The monument faces south and consists of a main body and a base. The main body is a square column, 1.53 meters tall, constructed from granite, with the inscriptions “Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument,” “Their Spirit Lives On,” and “Immortalized Forever” on the front and sides. The base has two tiers, is 1.02 meters high with sides 3.03 meters long, and is built from brick and stone with a cement plaster finish. It holds a granite plaque titled “Brief Account of the Martyrs’ Deeds,” measuring 71 cm in length and 45 cm in height.

Currently, the Shixia Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument has become an important site for local patriotic education activities.
