Songmushan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Songmushan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located on Huaguoshan in the Jinxiu area of Songmushan Village, Dalang Town. GPS coordinates: 22°54'04.6"N, 113°54'32.9"E, elevation 31 meters.

During the Anti-Japanese War and the nationwide Liberation War, Songmushan was one of the guerrilla bases for the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force and the Third Regiment of the First Detachment of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Troops were often active here and engaged in numerous battles against Japanese puppet troops and the Kuomintang army. During the war, five guerrillas sacrificed their lives here. In 1944, to commemorate the martyred guerrillas, local villagers buried the five soldiers in Goumenling (a local place name). In 1962, to ensure a more fitting resting place, their remains were relocated to Huaguoshan in Songmushan Village. In 1989, the Songmushan Management District renovated the tomb and monument. The monument faces south and stands north, with a base measuring 7.8 meters long and 5.1 meters wide, and the monument itself standing 2.58 meters high. The base serves as a tomb where the martyrs' remains are buried. The structure is made of brick, stone, and concrete, consisting of a burial mound, tombstone, and semi-circular worship pool, forming a "mountain" shape. It bears inscriptions reading "Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument" and "Tomb of the Five Heroes." The surrounding area is planted with cypress trees, and Huaguoshan is covered with lush lychee trees.

Today, the Songmushan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument has become an important site for patriotic education activities in Dalang Town.

Songmushan Village: Songmushan Village

Songmushan Village has a population of over 2,554. It is located 30 kilometers southeast of Dongguan’s urban center and 6 kilometers southwest of Dalang Town’s central area. Originally covering an area of 7.3 square kilometers, 4.5 square kilometers were requisitioned in 2006 for the development of Songshan Lake, leaving a current area of 2.8 square kilometers. The village borders Shuiping and Pingshan to the east, Xiniupo to the south, Songshan Lake to the west, and Huangcaolang to the north.
