Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Xiniupo

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Xiniupo is located at Jingshuimei in Xiniupo Village, Dalang Town. GPS coordinates: 22°52'11.8"N, 113°52'41.0"E, elevation 46 meters.

During the War of Resistance Against Japan and the nationwide Liberation War, the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Guangdong–Jiangxi–Hunan Border Column engaged in numerous battles against the enemy in Xiniupo, with some guerrilla fighters sacrificing their lives heroically in combat. In the early days after the liberation of Dongguan, local villagers from Xiniupo found the remains of two of the martyrs, placed them in coffins, and buried them on a small hill within the village, sealing them with cement. In the spring of 1975, to commemorate the two martyrs, the Xiniupo Brigade constructed a martyr memorial monument on this hill. It was rebuilt in August 2007. The monument faces southeast to northwest, built with granite, standing 2.01 meters tall with a base that is 1.4 meters long. Its front is inscribed with seven red characters reading “Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs.” Cypress trees are planted on both sides of the monument, and a new management office has been built next to it. One of the martyrs was named Xie Xiuqiu, male, born in 1904 in Zhushan, Dalang, Dongguan. He joined the Dongjiang Column in 1944 and unfortunately sacrificed his life during battle with the enemy in Xiniupo in February of the same year. The other martyr, whose name is unknown, was from Bao’an, Shenzhen, and died in Xiniupo, Dalang, Dongguan during the nationwide Liberation War.

Today, the Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Xiniupo has become an important site for patriotic education activities in Dalang Town.

Xiniupo Village: Xiniupo Village

Xiniupo Village is located southwest of Dalang Town, approximately 13 kilometers from the town center. The original jurisdiction area covered 13 square kilometers but was later reduced to 8.91 square kilometers after land was acquired for the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park. The village administers seven villager groups with a registered population of 3,073.
