Level Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Level Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located in Level Village, Dalang Town, Dongguan City. It was built to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the ambush at Dongshan'ao.

Dongshan'ao is located in Pingshan Village, Dalang Town (formerly part of the Level Production Brigade), adjacent to Dongshan Mountain, with a mountain path leading to the Meitang area of Huangjiang Town. In May 1948, in order to crush the enemy's first "mopping-up" campaign, consolidate and expand the base area, Huang Hua, political commissar of the Third Regiment of the Guangdong People's Liberation Army Jiangnan Column, along with Deputy Regimental Commander Lin Wenhü and Deputy Battalion Commander He Tang, led the Steel Squad and the Jinzhong Squad to advance into the Dalingshan Mountain area and set up camp in Pingshan Village.

On May 16, about 200 troops from the Kuomintang army set out from Xiaobian, preparing to move into Meitang. Along the way, they rested in the lychee orchard of Xiniupo. Upon receiving the news, the Third Regiment decided to ambush the enemy at Dongshan'ao. The Steel Squad was positioned on the high ground south of the pass, while the Jinzhong Squad occupied the top of the pass, with one squad controlling the main peak and another cutting off the enemy’s retreat route. After two hours of fighting, they achieved a great victory, capturing 24 enemies including Li Hanmin, deputy battalion commander and fifth company commander of the Humen Fortress, and Liu Dingjia, company commander of the county police, and killing 15 enemies (including 3 platoon leaders). They also seized one heavy machine gun, one light machine gun, 26 rifles, 6 pistols, 38 helmets, and 25 loads of supplies. The Third Regiment lost five soldiers including Mao Gui and Mo Pei, and had five lightly wounded. The victory at the Dongshan'ao ambush thwarted the enemy's plan to encircle and occupy the Meitang area through coordinated attacks.

In March 1956, Level Village in Dalang Town erected a monument in memory of the martyrs who fell in this battle. The monument is 5 meters tall, 0.8 meters wide, covering an area of over 80 square meters. The front of the monument is inscribed with the seven characters "Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument." A cypress tree stands on each side of the monument, symbolizing the everlasting spirit of the revolutionary martyrs. (Ye Jifan, Publicity Office of Dalang Town)

Level Village: Level Village

Level Village is a veteran revolutionary guerrilla base area, located in the southern part of Dalang Town, adjacent to the Songshan Lake High-Tech Industrial Park, with an area of 7 square kilometers. It borders Pingshan Village to the east, Xiniupo Village to the west, Songshushan Village to the north, and Shenzhen Bao'an District to the south. The village has a permanent population of 1,859 and 480 households, divided into two villager groups. Level Village is known for producing high-quality lychees, a specialty of Lingnan. In 2006, the Dalang Town Hongxiuqiu Lychee Professional Cooperative was established. That year, the total lychee yield was 234 tons, earning the village the title "Hometown of Lychees."
