Former Site of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Northern Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC
The former sites of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Northern Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC are listed as Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units, classic red tourism destinations, and patriotic education bases.
The former sites of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Northern Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC are distributed across Wuliting in Zhenjiang District, Shaoguan City; Bayi Village in Shen suo Town, Shixing County; and Yaokeng Village in Nanxiong City. Under the successive leadership of the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Southern China Working Committee of the CPC, these sites served as the command center for the anti-Japanese struggle of the people of Guangdong at that time. These are the currently discovered surviving provincial committee sites predating the founding of the People’s Republic of China in our province, serving as significant historical testimonies to the Party’s leadership in the revolutionary struggles of the people of Guangdong.
At that time, the provincial committee offices operated under the cover of running schools and engaging in business, concealing their activities in northern Guangdong to carry out the War of Resistance against Japan, while also combating the upsurge of attacks launched by the Kuomintang reactionaries. The people of Bayi Village and Yaokeng Village warmly assisted the Party organization and made great sacrifices to protect Party members. The Dian’anwei site in Bayi Village was where the offices and residences of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Northern Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC were located. This Hakka-style square enclosed building originally had five floors, each floor covering 1,008 square meters. The wooden structures, flooring, and partitions inside the building were all brutally burned down by the Japanese invaders, leaving only a ring of ruined walls. In Yaokeng Village, eyewitnesses of history painfully recounted the atrocities committed by the Japanese invaders, who slaughtered over ten villagers daily in an attempt to eliminate Party members—an account that is deeply moving.
During the War of Resistance, a profound bond was forged between Party cadres and the people. To this day, local residents continue to spontaneously protect these precious red historical sites and revolutionary relics. Villagers in Bayi Village utilized the second-floor classrooms of the village school’s teaching building to establish a rare village-level exhibition hall, even at the provincial and national levels, collecting and displaying a considerable number of revolutionary relics and materials, as well as compiling several issues of historical documentation. The villagers of Yaokeng Village carefully preserved the revolutionary monument, the office space, and the ruins of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC, and enthusiastically provided the cultural relics administrative department with valuable historical photos and other materials and information about the revolutionary martyrs.
