Former Site of the Beijiang Peasant Army School

The former site of the Beijiang Peasant Army School is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The former site of the Beijiang Peasant Army School is located on Jianguo Road in Shaoguan City. Originally the office of the Du Si (military commander) during the Qing Dynasty, the building covers an area of 633 square meters. In October 1926, the Beijiang Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party established a school here to train military cadres for the peasant movement. Zhu Yunqing, a member of the Beijiang Special Committee and a graduate of the third class of the Whampoa Military Academy, served as the director. The school primarily focused on military training and held two sessions, training over 400 students who became key figures in the Beijiang Peasant Army and the peasant movement. After the “April 15” counter-revolutionary coup in Guangzhou in 1927, the Beijiang Peasant Army marched north to Wuhan and later participated in the Nanchang Uprising. After the failure of the uprising, some members returned to northern Guangdong to continue armed struggle.

The site has now been renovated.

In July 1962, the People's Government of Guangdong Province designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
