Lishi Pawnshop

Lishi Pawnshop is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Lishi Pawnshop is located in Lishi Neighborhood Committee, Lishi Town. In 1927, Zhu De led a regiment of over 400 soldiers from the Nanchang Uprising forces, en route to Guangzhou to join an uprising. Upon reaching the suburbs of Shaoguan and learning of the failure of the Guangzhou Uprising, he promptly redirected his troops northward to Lishi. They stayed at the pawnshop owned by Li Dacai, located on the west side of Lishi Street, under the name of a Kuomintang army regiment at the time. During their stay at Lishi Pawnshop, Zhu De’s forces, following instructions from the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, joined local peasant groups in armed struggle and carried out land reforms. They also established contact with peasant armies from the Beijiang region and remnants of the Guangzhou Uprising that retreated to Beijiang, participating in the peasant uprisings across the Beijiang area. In 1984, the former People’s Government of Qujiang County designated this late Qing Dynasty architectural complex—covering a total floor area of 1,075 square meters and built with blue bricks and timber—as a county-level cultural relic protection unit. In June 2006, Shaoguan City listed it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.

On December 10, 2015, Lishi Pawnshop was approved and announced by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province as part of the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.

Lishi Town: Located 13 kilometers north of Shaoguan City, Lishi Town in Zhenjiang District, Shaoguan City, borders Dongtang Town and Danxia Town of Renhua County to the east, Guitou Town of Ruyuan County, Langyue Town and Huaping Town of Lechang City to the north, Chongyang Town of Wujiang District to the west, and Shiliting Town to the south. The town features a hilly terrain with more mountains than flat land and abundant forest resources.
