Ras El Tin Palace

Introduction: Also known as the Winter Palace, Ras El Tin Palace is the counterpart to Montaza Palace. Located at the western end of Alexandria, it stands directly across from Montaza Palace along the long coastline. However, its architecture, decoration, and furnishings are even more luxurious than those of Montaza Palace. Ras El Tin Palace was formerly the summer residence of the Egyptian kings, and is now the Egyptian state guesthouse. The Egyptian president also stays here when spending the summer in Alexandria, leading locals to joke: "The president escapes the heat in the Winter Palace, while the common folk head to the Summer Palace."
