1. St. Basil's Cathedral St. Basil's Cathedral Храм Василия Блаженного
Located in the heart of Moscow, it was commissioned by Tsar Ivan IV to commemorate the conquest of the Khanate of Kazan.It is one of Russia’s most iconic traditional buildings. Though compact in size, the cathedral houses nine individual chapels. Its vividly colored exterior and unique onion domes make it a striking sight.
2. Red Square Red Square Красная площадь
Adjacent to St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin’s Mausoleum, the Kremlin, and GUM Department Store,it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name "Red Square" originates from the Russian word "Красная," meaning "red" or "beautiful."
3. The KremlinMoscow Kremlin Московский Кремль
Renowned as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," it symbolizes Russia’s national history and culture and is a treasure trove of artistic and historical monuments. It currently serves as the administrative headquarters of the Russian Federation and the official residence of the President of Russia. Visiting early in the morning means fewer crowds, but by noon, you may have to wait about an hour to buy tickets and enter.
4. Alexander Garden Alexander Garden Александровский сад
Named after Tsar Alexander I of Russia, it is one of the city’s first parks. The park is filled with lush flowers, trees, and greenery, offering fresh air. I love strolling here to experience the slow pace of life in Russia; when tired, there are plenty of benches to rest on.
5. Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Храм Христа
Спасителя
It is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world and one of the largest. The cathedral was built to give thanks to Christ the Savior for liberating Russia from Napoleon’s invasion and to commemorate those who died in the war. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, and it’s recommended to spend some time exploring the area.
6. Triumphal Arch Triumphal Arch Триумфальные ворота
In addition to France, Moscow also has a triumphal arch, built to commemorate Russia’s great victory over Napoleon in the Patriotic War. It is now the oldest surviving triumphal arch in Moscow. Positioned right in the middle of the road, it makes for a unique photo spot.
7. Izmaylovsky Market Izmaylovsky Market Вернисаж в Измайлово
Located in the suburbs of Moscow, this is a large open-air market and one of the world’s famous flea markets. It features many Russian handicrafts such as matryoshka dolls, paintings, and wooden items. The upper floors include a second-hand market selling film cameras, Soviet-era military binoculars, and more—perfect for treasure hunting.
8. Gorky Park Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure Центральный парк культуры и отдыха
им. М.Горькогo
One of the largest parks in central Moscow, it’s a popular hangout for Russian children and youth. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities, including an artificial beach, beach volleyball courts, open lawns, ping pong tables, a playground, kids’ gymnastics classes, VR experiences, and even circus acts like trapeze artists!! During my visit, I even stumbled upon a free yoga class—great for stretching out.
9. Kolomenskoye Park Kolomenskoye Park Коломенское
Located just a few kilometers from the city center, this former royal estate was a favorite countryside retreat for Moscow princes. Its tent-roofed wooden church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the day I visited, I was lucky enough to encounter a Cossack party. The Cossacks mainly live in regions like Russia and Ukraine and, although they are no longer considered a distinct ethnic group,
they still maintain their traditional way of life.
10. Krasnoluzhsky Bridge Krasnoluzhsky Bridge Мост Богдана Хмельницкого
An arched highway bridge located at the eastern end of the Kremlin, it spans the Moscow River and connects Red Square with Ordynka Street. At dusk, the bridge lights up, creating a very romantic atmosphere.
