Egypt plans to build the world’s first underwater museum in its port city of Alexandria, allowing visitors to go beneath the water and view ancient Egyptian relics submerged in the Mediterranean Sea, aiming to boost tourism.

This underwater museum will consist of both above-water and underwater sections. The above-water part will display restored relics, while the underwater section will be made up of four structures modeled after Nile sailboats, extending 7 meters below the water’s surface and interconnected in the middle to form a circular exhibition platform with a diameter of 80 meters. The site will showcase up to 2,500 ancient relics submerged underwater. Visitors can either walk through underwater passages to explore the sea firsthand or opt to tour the sunken ancient city via glass-bottomed submarines or scuba diving.
