The Lighthouse of Alexandria, along with the other six wonders, is truly unique because it carries no religious significance and was built purely for the practical needs of the people. The light from the Lighthouse of Alexandria illuminated the entire Port of Alexandria at night, safeguarding ships at sea. Additionally, it was also the tallest building in the world at that time.

Location: On the island of Pharos near the Port of Alexandria in Egypt.

Shortly after the death of Alexander the Great, one of his generals, Ptolemy Soter, established dominance over Egypt and made Alexandria his capital. Recognizing the dangerous waters near the port of Alexandria, Ptolemy Soter commissioned the construction of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, in collaboration with the architect Sostratus and the Library of Alexandria (also known as the Mouseion). The lighthouse was completed in 290 BC.
