Harare

Harare is located on the northeastern plateau of Zimbabwe at an altitude of 1,472 meters and is the capital and largest city of the country. The name "Harare" means "city that does not sleep," derived from the name of a chief who was always vigilant and never slept, embodying a spirit of outsmarting enemies.

Harare is a modern European-style city with beautiful surroundings, well-planned layout, numerous parks and green spaces, and a pleasant climate. It remains lush with greenery all year round, cool as spring, enjoyable in all seasons, and blooming with flowers. The city streets crisscross to form countless "waffle" grids, while wide, neat, and tranquil tree-lined boulevards provide a serene atmosphere. A large number of parks and gardens offer ample space for weekend outings and relaxation. The central-southern part of the city is the commercial district, while the northern and eastern areas consist of upscale residential zones filled with small villas enclosed by hedges, featuring gardens, lawns, and swimming pools. These are interspersed with luxurious clubs, golf courses, and other recreational facilities. The southwestern area of Harare, however, has low-rise houses and narrow streets—it was historically designated by colonists as a residential area for Black people.

Within Harare, there is the Victoria Museum, which houses early indigenous paintings as well as precious artifacts unearthed from the "Great Zimbabwe Ruins." Other notable sites include cathedrals, universities, Rufaro Stadium, and art galleries.
