HOT！Melbourne, Australia Ranked the World’s Most Livable City for the Third Consecutive Year

According to the Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in the UK, Melbourne, Australia — once enriched by its gold rush — stood out among 140 cities worldwide to claim the top spot as the world’s most livable city for the third time. Australia also secured four cities in the top ten, making it the biggest winner of this survey.

The Global Liveability Index evaluates cities based on factors such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Melbourne scored full marks in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, edging out Vienna, Austria in second place, and Vancouver, Canada in third, to retain its championship title. The fourth to seventh spots are held by Toronto and Calgary in Canada, and Adelaide and Sydney in Australia, with Calgary and Adelaide tied for fifth. The eighth to tenth places go to Helsinki in Finland, Perth in Australia, and Auckland in New Zealand. Taipei, Taiwan ranked 61st in this survey, also being one of the top 10 cities with the most improvement over the past five years.

 

In addition, the bottom 10 cities in the survey include Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh; Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea; Lagos in Nigeria; Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe; Algiers, the capital of Algeria; Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan; Tripoli, the capital of Libya; Douala in Cameroon; and Tehran in Iran. Damascus, the capital of Syria — plagued by instability and recently hit by a chemical attack — ranked last.
