The highlight of the night in Kaohsiung: Mayday performs for free, rocking the Glory Pier

The tourism ambassador of Kaohsiung, Mayday, will take the stage in the harbor city once again. The important Asia-Pacific regional forum “Asia-Pacific Cities Summit” will be held in Kaohsiung from September 9 to 11. On September 10, the “2013 Asia-Pacific Cities Summit – Night of Kaohsiung” to be held at Glory Pier will be headlined by Mayday, combining performances by local Kaohsiung art troupes to showcase the city’s vibrancy in pop music and local culture.

The “Asia-Pacific Cities Summit” is held biennially. It was founded in 1996 by Kaohsiung’s sister city, Brisbane, Australia, and is now in its ninth edition. Kaohsiung has secured the hosting rights for this session, with an expected turnout of over 1,000 distinguished guests from more than 80 cities worldwide. The “Night of Kaohsiung” gala evening is planned as a concert-style event, with exclusive title sponsorship by the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and hosted by entertainers Huang Zi Jiao and RUBY. The event will be open to the public free of charge, with no ticket required.

 

The evening event is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM on September 10 at Glory Pier. Students from the Kaohsiung campus of Shih Chien University will start the show with a creative Songjiang Battle Array combined with a powerful drum performance. The Electric Trio Gods, who amazed the world at the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games, will also deliver an exciting performance. In addition to outstanding shows by local traditional art troupes, other performers include Ding Dang, singer of the 2011 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival theme song, who has won multiple music awards in the Chinese-speaking world and is recognized as a top urban love ballad vocalist; Yan Jue, a 100% original music artist who just finished shooting an MV in Kaohsiung; and the electronic rock band MP Magic Power, known for inviting former Kaohsiung mayor Chen Chu to star in their “Sagittarius Dance” MV. Each will perform their signature songs, bringing a fresh and unique experience to attendees. The evening will close with Mayday, a frequent Golden Melody Award winner who set records performing for 300,000 people over three nights at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest and 200,000 over four nights at the World Games Main Stadium, delivering a concert-level performance as the finale.
