Bejaia

Bejaia is a port city located on the Mediterranean coast in northeastern Algeria. It is the capital of Béjaïa Province and one of the largest cities in Algeria where Berber is widely spoken. It is also the largest city in the Kabylie region.

To the north of Bejaia, there is a mountain peak called Monkey Mountain (Pic des Singes), as it serves as a natural habitat for the endangered Barbary macaque, the only primate of its kind in Africa and an extremely rare and precious species. If you want to learn about the city’s history, the Bejaia Museum is the ideal place to visit. In addition, the fortress built by the Spanish in 1545, the sculpture commemorating the Algerian War of Independence, the 16th-century mosque, and the Gouraya National Park, which boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna, are all worth visiting.
