Blida

Blida is located in northern Algeria, 435 kilometers southwest of the national capital Algiers, at an elevation of 190 meters above sea level, and is the capital of Blida Province. The city was once a military stronghold during the Roman Empire era and became a trade center from the 16th century onward, featuring castles and towers.

Blida as a whole has a French character, and currently features modern streets with arched colonnades that blend the classical and the contemporary. The city’s most important square is the Place d'Armes, surrounded by arcaded buildings and trees. Some of the oldest structures include sacred churches, monasteries, barracks, and military hospitals, which are among the best representations of its history.
