Guelma

Guelma is located in the northeastern part of Algeria and serves as the capital of Guelma Province, about 60 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. The city was originally built by the Phoenicians, later occupied by the Romans, then by the French, and after the country’s independence, a university was established—the University of 8 May 1945.

Situated in the heart of an agricultural region, Guelma lies 290 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. Thanks to river irrigation, the land here is fertile. The city’s main tourist attraction is its steaming hot springs, known for their excellent therapeutic properties and considered a must-visit. Folk music and traditional music are also a highlight of the city, heavily influenced by Constantine and Annaba. In addition to traditional musicians, the city also hosts rap artists, blues and rock musicians, and various music events are held throughout the year.
