Constantine is located in northeastern Algeria and serves as the capital of Constantine Province, making it the third-largest city in the country. It is an industrial city and a transportation hub, known for handicrafts such as carpet weaving, and nearby lies Africa’s largest porcelain factory.

The city is divided into eastern and western sections, with the eastern old town characterized by narrow alleyways and numerous ancient Arab residences. The northwest part houses ancient Roman-era fortresses, palaces, mosques, and more. Constantine is home to a university, an Islamic school, and numerous ancient Roman and medieval landmarks, including the stone walls surrounding the city, the Cirta National Museum, the municipal library, mosques, the old town, the university, the royal palace, ancient Roman aqueducts, and a statue of Emperor Constantine I. The tomb of the Algerian national hero Abdelkader is also located in Constantine.
