Mostaganem is located on the Mediterranean coast in northwestern Algeria, on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Arzew. It is the capital of Mostaganem Province and was founded in the 11th century, situated 72 kilometers from the city of Oran. This well-known port city in Algeria plays a significant role in the country's economic development.

Mostaganem is an important port city in Algeria. In the 1970s, the earliest proposal for the Algeria–Italy trans-Mediterranean intercontinental gas pipeline project involved crossing the Mediterranean Sea here to Cartagena in Spain. Within the city, trees of various shapes grow tall and strong, while numerous spice plants emit fragrant aromas, creating a tropical ambiance.
