Algiers

Algiers, the capital of Algeria, is situated in the northern part of the country, backed by the grand northern slopes of the Tell Atlas Mountains. It lies nestled between the two bays of El Harrach and El Marsa, which form a shape reminiscent of a semicircular theater. The city extends about 20 kilometers along the Algiers Bay on the Mediterranean coast and resembles a hemispherical amphitheater. Built on undulating hillsides, the city features buildings stacked layer upon layer, with winding streets. From luxurious mansions on the Mediterranean beaches and villas tucked amid lush greenery, to towering minarets and densely packed white-walled residences tucked into the slopes — all walls are painted white, often enveloped in the light mist of the Mediterranean — the scenery is breathtaking. No wonder Algiers is known as the “White City.”
