Maya

Maya is a city in northern Portugal, administered by the Porto District. It was elevated to the status of a town in 1902 and to a city in 1986. Archaeological findings indicate that humans have inhabited the area since the Paleolithic Age, and the small village on the hill dates back to the Iron Age.

Maya is an important cultural hub in the region, regularly hosting a variety of events including music, theater, visual arts, and local traditional performances. The Church of Santo Ângelo is a Roman Catholic church with origins dating back to the 12th century, making it a significant religious site in the area. The Monastery of Moreira is said to have existed since 862, featuring a Mannerist architectural style, and is currently preserved as a national monument.
