Shelburne Beach

Shelburne Beach stretches for 90 miles and is almost uninhabited. With its azure sea, clear skies, fine white sand, and boundless ocean, it offers a refreshing and unforgettable experience. Shelburne Beach is famous primarily as the nesting site and egg-laying ground for four endangered species of sea turtles that come here every year. These four endangered sea turtle species are rarely seen in other areas.

The area itself is a unique plant ecosystem, including mangroves, swamps, forests, and inland grasslands; it is also a biological ecosystem that, besides the four endangered sea turtle varieties (leatherback, hawksbill, olive ridley, and green sea turtles), is home to manatees, tapirs, deer, jaguars, howler monkeys, and other large animals. In addition, it is a gathering place for birds, including many species of parrots, macaws, and numerous waterfowl such as scarlet ibises, Caribbean flamingos, herons, and egrets. Due to the difficult accessibility of these regions and the desolate nature of the mangrove swamps, there has been no large-scale human settlement along the beach and its surrounding areas, allowing the Shelburne beach ecosystem to remain relatively intact over the years.
