Do you remember the paradise waterfall that the old man and woman in *Up* always dreamed of exploring together? That towering mountain peak, with the paradise waterfall cascading down from the clouds — actuallytruly exists on the Guiana Highlands, known as “Mount Roraima.”This plateau, with a history of 200 million years and covering an area of 30,000 square kilometers across six countries, is the oldest and most pristine surface on Earth.

The Guiana Highlands were uplifted into the sky due to tectonic movements, and over time, erosion by rainwater left behind flat, hard rock layers on the mountaintops, creating this otherworldly, fairy-tale-like natural wonder. Across the vast Guiana Highlands, there are at least a hundred such “table mountains” that rise above the clouds, with the highest reaching up to 2,560 meters.

Known locally as “tepui,” meaning “the house of the gods”, these flat-topped plateaus feature landscapes of tropical savannahs, surrounded by cotton-candy-like clouds, and are edged with never-before-seen tropical plants. Hundreds of waterfalls slice through the mountains, making them look from afar like tiny islands scattered across a vast sea of clouds.

When viewed from another angle,lies the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall – Angel Falls.Cascading down from the high cliffs, also known as Salto Ángel, it is located in Canaima National Park, Venezuela’s largest nature reserve. With a staggering height of 979 meters, the park is crisscrossed by rivers, flanked by towering mountains, and boasts endless tropical rainforests and open grasslands. Besides the famous Angel Falls, there are numerous other waterfall clusters, earning it the title “Land of Waterfalls.”
