Do you remember the paradise waterfall that the old man and woman in *Up* always dreamed of exploring together? That towering mountain peak, with the paradise waterfall cascading down from the clouds — actuallytruly exists on the Guiana Highlands, also known as “Mount Roraima.”This plateau has a history of 200 million years, spans 30,000 square kilometers, and crosses six countries, making it the oldest and most pristine surface on Earth.

The Guiana Highlands were uplifted into the sky due to tectonic movements. Over time, erosion by rainwater carved away softer layers, leaving behind flat, hard rock formations on the mountaintops, creating this isolated, fairy-tale-like natural wonder. Across the vast Guiana Highlands, there are at least a hundred such “table mountains” that rise above the clouds, with the tallest reaching up to 2,560 meters.

Known locally as “tepui,” these flat-topped plateaus mean “the house of the gods.”They feature landscapes of tropical savannah, surrounded by cotton-candy-like clouds, with never-before-seen tropical plants clinging to their edges. Hundreds of waterfalls slice through the mountains, giving the distant view the appearance of countless small islands scattered across an endless sea of clouds.

Looking from another angle,lies the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall — Angel Falls.Also known as Salto Ángel, it plunges down from the high cliffs of Venezuela’s largest nature reserve, Canaima National Park. With a staggering height of 979 meters, the park features crisscrossing rivers, towering cliffs, endless tropical rainforests, and open grasslands. In addition to the famous Angel Falls, there are many other waterfalls in the area, earning it the reputation of the “Land of Waterfalls.”
