Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology

The Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology was established in 1974 but did not open to the public until 1982, making it the oldest museum in the English-speaking Caribbean. The museum is named after Dr. Walter Roth in honor of his significant contributions to archaeology.

The museum is a non-profit institution dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and preserving items related to Guyanese culture, with the aim of disseminating knowledge about the indigenous cultures of Guyana. Its exterior is an elegant three-story wooden building, reportedly constructed in 1890. The collections primarily consist of anthropological and archaeological finds related to the lives of early Indigenous peoples.
