Yerevan

Yerevan means "the land of Eri," formerly also translated as "Erevan." It is the capital of Armenia and the country’s economic and cultural center. As one of the world’s renowned ancient cities, it is located on the banks of the Hrazdan River and built on the slopes of a hill, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Situated on the hillside, Yerevan enjoys picturesque natural views, with the snow-covered peaks of Mount Ararat and Mount Aragats clearly visible in the distance. Mount Ararat is a symbol of the Armenian nation, and its image is featured on the Armenian national emblem.

Located on the Hrazdan River in southwestern Armenia, Yerevan is about 20 kilometers from the Turkish border. To the north and south of the city stand Mount Ararat and Mount Aragats, mountains known for their colorful granite and marble. Most buildings in Yerevan are constructed from these mountain stones, giving the city’s houses a vibrant and colorful appearance. The city is also famous for its stone carving and architectural artistry. The new part of the city is built along the hillside, where lush green slopes are dotted with beautiful residences, creating a truly picturesque landscape. Yerevan is an important cultural hub of Armenia, home to universities and various other higher education institutions. The Academy of Sciences was established here, along with archives, theaters, a history museum, a folk art museum, and the National Gallery, which houses over 20,000 oil paintings. The Matenadaran Museum of Ancient Manuscripts is internationally renowned, containing over 17,000 ancient Armenian manuscripts and nearly 40,000 valuable documents written in Arabic, Persian, Greek, Latin, and other languages. Many of these manuscripts were written directly on specially prepared parchment.
