Yerevan Blue Mosque

The Yerevan Blue Mosque, also known as Gök Jami Mosque, is situated in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, across from the Mashtots Indoor Market. It is the largest mosque in Yerevan and the only remaining mosque constructed for Muslims in Armenia. The name Gök Jami, in Turkish, literally means "Blue Mosque."

Historical records indicate that the Yerevan Mosque was built around the year 1765 under the orders of Hussein Ali-Khan, the then local ruler, primarily serving as the main Friday mosque of the area. The mosque’s grand entrance gate and towering minaret were adorned with high-quality blue and green tiles, their vibrant colors giving the mosque its name. At the center of the mosque courtyard is a fountain, with other structures built around it. The courtyard mainly features elm trees, and nearby there are public baths and a school. During the Soviet era, the mosque housed the Yerevan Museum. In the mid-1990s, Iranian patrons funded a major reconstruction of the mosque, which was largely completed by 1999. On weekends, visitors can view an exhibition of old photographs of Yerevan.
