National Museum of Mongolia

The National Museum of Mongolia is located in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, and is one of the country's national museums. It serves as a cultural, scientific, and educational institution in Mongolia, responsible for collecting, preserving, and exhibiting its collections.

In 1971, the Revolution Museum was established. In 1991, the Revolution Museum combined with the history, archaeology, and ethnography sections of the Central Museum to form the National Museum of Mongolian History, which remained at the original site of the Revolution Museum. Today, the museum has been renamed the National Museum of Mongolia and is one of the most well-known museums in the country.

The museum is tasked with protecting Mongolia’s cultural heritage and establishing museological standards for museums across the nation. Its exhibitions cover prehistory, the pre-Mongol Empire era, the Mongol Empire, Qing Dynasty rule over Mongolia, ethnography and traditional life, and 20th-century history. The ethnographic collection includes traditional costumes of Mongolia’s ethnic groups, snuff bottles, and more. Most exhibits are labeled in both Mongolian and English. The museum publishes at least one journal per year, featuring articles in Mongolian as well as foreign languages such as Russian and English.
