Yurt-style Starry Sky Library Designed by Daniel Wu Nominated for Architecture's Oscars

Hong Kong’s famous actor Daniel Wu collaborated with Shanghai architect Zhang Hai’ao to create a yurt-style grassland starry sky library called “Mulan House” at the Mulan Weichang grassland on the border of Hebei and Inner Mongolia in China. The exterior resembles a yurt and sits amid the breathtaking beauty of a wilderness where temperatures can drop to minus 30 degrees Celsius. Its unique and innovative architectural design was even shortlisted for the 2018 architectural Oscars, the “RIBA International Prize” by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

The exterior of the starry sky library features the shape of a yurt, constructed using natural materials such as old wooden beams, rattan, and rough stone blocks, blending seamlessly with the surrounding nature. It is complemented by six surrounding square spaces, with glass floor-to-ceiling windows on the outer walls and a perforated roof that allows visitors to gaze at the stars.
