Bayanzag, commonly known as the Flaming Cliffs, is located in the Gobi region of Mongolia's South Gobi Province and is world-renowned for the numerous dinosaur fossils discovered here. The next day, after an early breakfast, we said goodbye to our host and embarked on yet another endless road trip. But as we got closer to the Flaming Cliffs, we noticed that even the sparse patches of grass gradually disappeared, leaving nothing but a vast expanse of golden yellow before us. Coupled with the heat-induced mirage (or was it fog?), it reminded me of the Flaming Mountains described in Journey to the West (the ones from the story are located—well, you know where).
 
 
 
As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were hit by an extreme dryness (superdry?) and intense heat. When the sun was directly overhead, it was hard to keep our eyes open. Everyone must make sure to apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses to protect their eyes. Our guide first gave us some background information about the area and then let us explore freely. Since it was already late September, there weren’t many tourists around (Mongolia’s peak tourist season is from June to August). Aside from us, we only saw a handful of people—it was amazing!! (Those planning to go can take note.)
 

However, the guide repeatedly reminded us not to get too close to the edge while sightseeing, as there were basically no guardrails—everything remained in its natural state. With the dry ground, there was not only a risk of slipping but also of the ground collapsing. One wrong move could be disastrous. Even when taking photos, stay cautious—your life is more important than a picture.
 

Every spot here offers endless photo opportunities—you’ll find yourself stopping to admire the view at every step. The Flaming Cliffs area is so expansive that if you really want to explore it thoroughly, it’ll probably take over an hour.
