Highlights Nagarkot is located 30 kilometers east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,100 meters and is known as the Himalayan viewpoint. On clear and visibility-friendly days, you can gaze at the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas stretching from Mount Everest in the east to the Annapurna range in the west, with eight mountains over 8,000 meters tall and more than twenty other snow-capped peaks rising and falling in line. Highlights Nagarkot was originally a small mountain village, but it has become a popular tourist destination due to its breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range. The best season for mountain viewing is October to November each year when the skies are clear and the eight snow peaks are fully visible. In winter, however, clouds and fog are more common, often obscuring the view of the snow-capped mountains. Dining / Accommodation / Shopping Staying in Nagarkot for 1–2 days is highly recommended to catch the majestic sunrise. With the increasing number of visitors coming for the sunrise, Nagarkot is now dotted with hotels, and prices tend to rise with elevation. Rooms at the top of the hill are usually priced in US dollars, generally ranging from $10 to $30 per room. There are no dedicated restaurants on the mountain — meals are typically taken at your own hotel. Transportation To get to Nagarkot, you can take a bus from “Ratna Park” in Kathmandu for 25 rupees. The journey takes about two hours and passes through Bhaktapur. Alternatively, you can board a bus from Bhaktapur for 15 rupees, which takes around one hour. The Nagarkot bus stop is at the foot of the mountain, and it takes about 20–30 minutes to walk to the hotels at the top.
