National Art Gallery of Malaysia

The National Art Gallery of Malaysia is located in the central-western part of Kuala Lumpur. Established on August 28, 1958, by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, it is an agency under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism, and has now become one of the most renowned art galleries in Southeast Asia. It aims to collect, preserve, and maintain artworks from Malaysia and other nations, promote the development of visual arts, and cultivate public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of art.

The uniquely designed National Art Gallery combines traditional Malaysian architectural features with modern elements, making it one of the most contemporary art venues in the country. When it first opened, the gallery had only four donated artworks, but it now houses a collection of over 25,000 pieces. The gallery includes five exhibition halls, meeting rooms, art studios, an information center, outdoor display areas, and office spaces. The exhibits are rich and diverse, featuring historically valuable artworks, local ethnic art, paintings, sculptures, sketches, watercolors, ceramic works, Chinese ink paintings, photography, installations, prints, and more.
