National Art Gallery

The National Art Gallery is located beneath the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Established in 1993 with funding from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), its purpose is to preserve, promote, and develop Malaysian culture. The gallery is a world-class venue, designed as a multi-purpose space with a strong sense of dimensionality and spatiality.

The highlight of the National Art Gallery is its spatial layout, which is divided into three sections: the Main Gallery, the Side Gallery, and the Experimental Art Studio, allowing for multiple exhibitions to be held simultaneously. The gallery features a diverse range of artworks including paintings, sculptures, and installation art. The exhibits are frequently rotated to maintain freshness, and visitors can sit on benches inside the gallery to enjoy the works at leisure. The artworks on display are not merely superficial illustrations but expressions of the artists’ ideas through form and color, offering visitors insight into tradition, history, and Malaysia. The gallery also regularly hosts various exhibitions, lectures, symposiums, and more.

The National Art Gallery has also established an Art Resource Centre, providing a collection of art books, articles, and films for public reference. Visitors can purchase art books, supplies, catalogues, and other materials to further explore Malaysian culture.
