Culture Station Seoul 284 was originally the Seoul Station of Korea, built in 1922, and served as the transportation gateway to Seoul for over 80 years. After the launch of KTX in 2004, Seoul Station became obsolete and was once abandoned, until 2011 when internal restoration work was completed, transforming it into a comprehensive cultural space. Its name was selected through a public competition in Korea and embodies meanings such as a cultural network hub, Seoul’s regional identity, and being the 284th registered historic site.

Culture Station Seoul 284 has two floors. The central hall on the first floor hosts various performances, exhibitions, events, and cafes, while the second floor functions as a multipurpose hall for seminars, conferences, and exhibitions. The restoration project preserved the station’s original appearance and structure to the greatest extent possible, and many items removed during construction were repurposed as exhibits. Like a train, it takes visitors into another realm of culture, allowing them to sense the traces of history and learn about Seoul’s traditions and culture.
