Namsangol Hanok Village

Namsangol Hanok Village is a village created by relocating five traditional Korean houses scattered across Seoul to this site. Located in Pyeong-dong, Jung District, Seoul, it is the only village in the area dominated by hanok (traditional Korean houses).

Historical records indicate that the Namsan Valley area during the Joseon Dynasty was blessed with streams, pavilions, fresh air, and expansive views, making it an early renowned summer retreat. The hanok in Namsangol Hanok Village include both residences of the ruling class from the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) and homes of common people, with their scale and interior arrangements fully restored to their original settings. Visitors to Namsangol Hanok Village can tour five Joseon-era ruling-class houses in one visit, including the birthplace of Queen Yun, the wife of King Sunjong, and the scholar’s house of the father-in-law of King Cheoljong, the 27th ruler of Joseon, gaining deep insight into the lives of the upper class at the time. In addition, the village regularly hosts performances of traditional Korean culture and offers opportunities to experience traditional Korean games such as archery. Traditional Korean weddings are also held here, allowing visitors interested in Korean wedding culture to experience the tradition on weekends.
