Iwata City

Iwata City is a municipality in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, situated on the Iwata Plateau along the eastern bank of the Tenryu River. It was once part of Iwata District. The city is home to the renowned Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, making it a hub for higher education for many students. It is also the birthplace of Japanese politician Takeyama Yutaro.

The economy of Iwata City primarily relies on agriculture, and it is well known for producing high-quality green tea as well as melons and other fruits. While the city does not have an abundance of tourist attractions, the most notable ones include the Enshu Kokubun-ji Ruins, Fu Hachiman Shrine, and Miteki Tenmangu Shrine. If you happen to be in the area, they are worth a visit. Local festivals include the Kumano Jusyo Festival, Nakazumi Fu Hachiman Shrine Festival, Tenpei Shrine Festival, and Kakezuka Kifune Shrine Ritual.
