Celebrating Mount Fuji’s UNESCO World Heritage Listing – Shizuoka Prefecture Facebook Gives Away Prizes

At the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held on June 22 in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, Japan’s Mount Fuji was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List. Originally excluded, “Shiraito Falls” and “Mihono-taki Waterfall” were eventually approved during the review, and Mount Fuji was registered under the name “Fujisan – Sacred Place and Source of Artistic Inspiration.”

Shizuoka Governor Heita Kawakatsu stated, “We are extremely delighted that Mount Fuji has been officially listed as a World Heritage Site. This successful inscription represents global recognition of Japan’s unique cultural and natural perspectives, and is not only of great significance to Japan but also the best possible gift.”

Half of Mount Fuji lies within Shizuoka Prefecture. To celebrate its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the prefecture is offering a variety of Mount Fuji experience activities. There are three main climbing routes in Shizuoka Prefecture (Fujinomiya, Gotemba, and Subashiri), each with distinct characteristics. Paragliding experiences on Asagiri Plateau offer a chance to view Mount Fuji from high above in various forms. Other activities include exploring Mount Fuji caves and viewing the spectacular sunrise over Lake Tanuki.

In addition, to celebrate the official inclusion of Mount Fuji in the World Heritage List, the Taiwan Office of the “Fuji no Kuni Shizuoka Prefecture” in Japan is holding a “Find Shizuoka Around You” Facebook event. From now until July 31, simply upload photos related to Shizuoka or Mount Fuji to the event page to be eligible to receive various prizes.
