"Descendants of the Sun" Filming Locations Revealed!

The hit Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun" not only features handsome men and beautiful women, but its filming locations are also incredibly eye-catching. The production cost averaged 8 billion KRW (about 5.12 million HKD) per episode, and they even went all the way toGreecefor filming. 1. GreeceNavagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach)

The "Navagio Beach," where Song Joong-ki speeds his boat to bring Song Hye-kyo ashore, is actually located onGreece’s western island of Zakynthos. To get there, you’ll need to take a domestic flight fromAthensfirst. The beach is nestled under a horseshoe-shaped cliff. Unfortunately, you can’t walk directly down from the cliff top to the sand—you have to drive down to the Porto Vromi small pier and then take a boat to reach it.

2. Where Song Joong-ki Knelt to Tie Shoes & BBQ Restaurant (Episode 13)

After returning toSeoul, a group of soldiers gets a 3-day, 4-night break, and two of the male leads end up hanging out at a BBQ restaurant drinking soju for three whole days and nights. These scenes were filmed at "Seorae Sikdang (???逛?)" in Dongdaemun District. To tie in with the drama’s popularity, the restaurant now displays a large banner where visitors can pose as Dr. Kang Mo-yeon while Captain Yoo Si-jin kneels to tie your shoelaces.

3. Viral Cafe (Episodes 1, 2, 6)

The cafe that frequently appears in the early episodes of the drama isKoreaThe chain coffee shop Dal.komm COFFEE. However, with numerous branches, two different locations were used for filming in separate scenes. In Episode 1, the two male leads, Captain Yoo Shi-jin and Sergeant Seo Dae-young, enter the "Pond Hall Pavilion Shop" in the city center after catching a thief. As for Episode 2, the female lead Kang Mo-yeon and Captain Yoo Shi-jin have their breakup conversation at the "Incheon Songdo Central Park Branch." Currently, the shop entrance has flags promoting that it was a filming location, and the store continuously plays the original theme song, along with selling themed merchandise—items not available at other branches. Finally, in Episode 6, the "Rescue Couple" (played by Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won) recall scenes at the "Taepyeong-ro Branch."

4. Helicopter TourSeoul (Episode 1)

In the first episode, Captain Yoo Shi-jin receives an urgent military mission and heads to the rooftop to take off in a helicopter. Although some pointed out that his rank didn’t qualify him for such a ride, everyone’s focus remained on the male lead. Meanwhile, it once again made the “Han River Helicopter Tour” service wildly popular—riding it lets you imagine enjoying the view ofSeoulwith Song Joong-ki by your side.

5.SeoulEscape street scene (Episode 6)

In Episode 6, Yoo Shi-jin and Seo Dae-young are drinking at a restaurant when they encounter another group of soldiers with whom they previously had some issues. This leads to a chase on a small road outside Exit 5 of Jongno 3-ga Station. They run up some stairs, turn the corner near the Paradise Musical Instrument Street, and finally end up on a steep slope located within the mural village in Sipjeong-dong, Buk-gu, Incheon.

6. Visit Captain Yoo’s Room

The drama features many military elements, such as the scenes where Captain Yoo Shi-jin fights with American soldiers or the room where he takes phone calls—all shot atGyeonggi ProvinceFilming location at Camp Greaves in Paju DMZ. This site was originally an old U.S. military base, which was converted into a security experience center after the armistice. The former officers' club and offices have been preserved, with some areas renovated into rooms for visitors to stay in.
