Mount Fuji Celebrates One Year as a UNESCO World Heritage Site & Gives Away Round-Trip Flights Between Taipei and Shizuoka

In (2013), during the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, Japan’s Mount Fuji was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List. Now, one year has passed. The Taiwan Office of Shizuoka Prefecture – “The Land of Mount Fuji, Japan” – invites the public to join the celebration by taking part in an online quiz. The grand prize is a round-trip flight for two between Taipei and Shizuoka worth approximately NT$27,000.

Half of Mount Fuji lies within Shizuoka Prefecture, which offers a variety of activities related to the mountain. For those wishing to climb it, there are three main trailheads in the prefecture (Fujinomiya, Gotemba, and Subashiri), each providing a unique hiking experience. Besides climbing, enjoying the views of Mount Fuji is also a highlight of any trip to Shizuoka. Try paragliding at Asagiri Plateau for a bird’s-eye view of the mountain, admire the “Diamond Fuji” spectacle at Lake Tanuki, or soak in the natural hot springs at the foot of the mountain — all adding colorful dimensions to your Mount Fuji adventure.

With Mount Fuji’s inscription as a World Heritage Site, it represents global recognition of Japan’s unique cultural and natural perspectives. For Japan, this is not only an affirmation but also a call to manage Mount Fuji as a “shared heritage of humanity” with sustainable stewardship for the future.

The Taiwan Office of Shizuoka Prefecture – “The Land of Mount Fuji, Japan” – has launched the “Fantastic! Ultimate Mount Fuji Travel Quiz Challenge.” From now until September 15, participants who join the online quiz game can win various prizes, with the top prize being a pair of round-trip flights between Taipei and Shizuoka.
