According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, regarding the issue of fees for Mount Fuji, Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures in Japan reached an agreement on the 14th to collect a ¥1,000 climbing fee from hikers. The two prefectures are expected to officially introduce a trial fee plan by the end of this month.
At the meeting held by the two prefectures on the 14th, Shizuoka proposed implementing a 10-day trial fee collection starting in late July, charging hikers ¥1,000 at the climbing starting points as a “cooperation fee” for Mount Fuji’s preservation. Yamanashi Prefecture expressed basic agreement with Shizuoka’s proposal.
