Many tourists visiting Japan are captivated by the exquisitely crafted and beautifully designed dolls found there. As a traditional form of Japanese folk art, doll-making originated around the Edo period. After centuries of development, these dolls have won widespread acclaim for their intricate designs, luxurious costumes, and diverse hairstyles, becoming a cherished indoor decorative item for the Japanese people and an important cultural symbol through which foreigners can learn about Japan.

The Hometown Style Museum of Sufeng is a small museum primarily dedicated to the collection and exhibition of dolls used for the March 3rd Girls' Day celebrations during the Edo period, imperial dolls, daily household items, and indigo-dyed fabrics with a white resist-dye pattern. It is located in the famous Kaisei Onsen area of Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, in Japan’s Chugoku region. The displays are mainly introduced by the female proprietors of Kaisei Onsen, who take turns giving tours. Every day, a large number of international tourists visit this small museum after soaking in the hot springs to explore and learn about traditional Japanese crafts.

The museum’s 2,000-piece collection comes from Sakaguchi Masako. In Showa 32 (1957), while presiding over the calligraphy group Sui cao hui, her teacher Iwasaki Sōzan bestowed upon her the name “Sufeng.” Since then, the museum has been known as the Hometown Style Museum of Sufeng. In addition to the regular displays of dolls and indigo-dyed fabrics, the museum also frequently hosts exhibitions of works by local craft artists and painters, allowing visitors to appreciate the creations of regional artists up close.
