Yonago City

Yonago City is a city located in the western part of Tottori Prefecture, Japan, bordering Shimane Prefecture. It is one of the major cities in the San'in region. The city's area mainly lies on the Yonago Plain, with the Yumigahama Peninsula to the northwest and hilly terrain to the south. It became Yonago Town in 1889 and was elevated to city status in 1927, serving as the location of Yonago National College of Technology.

The ruins of Yonago Castle are among the most famous attractions in Yonago City. Especially during spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the area becomes a sea of pink, attracting large numbers of visitors. Yonago Waterbird Sanctuary is Japan’s largest waterbird protected area and home to many species of waterfowl. On average, 75,000 birds visit annually, and in winter, around 1,000 tundra swans overwinter here, earning it the nickname “Japan’s Swan Lake.” Other notable sites include Kamo Onsen, Fuchu Ruins, Aoki Ruins, Tsumugi Bantan Ruins, Mukoyama Tomb Cluster, the Historical Site of the Tottori Domain Battery, Otaka Castle Ruins, Konoura Castle Ruins, Fukuda Family Garden, Goto Family Residence, Takada Family Residence, and Yumigahama Observation Deck.
