Odori Park

Odori Park is a park located in the heart of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, stretching horizontally across the city. Originally built as a commercial district based on Sapporo’s comprehensive urban planning, it has since evolved into a landmark large-scale park. Stretching 1.5 kilometers in length and covering approximately 78,901 square meters, the park offers ample plaza space. The park generally runs from east to west and serves as Sapporo’s “natural” dividing line: to the north stand various corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and the Hokkaido Government Building, while to the south lies a bustling underground shopping arcade.

Odori Park is home to 4,700 trees of 92 different species, along with various flowers such as lilacs, roses, and azaleas. Amidst the greenery and blossoms, the park also features occasional cultural elements like sculptures and fountains, making for a particularly beautiful landscape. As a symbol of Sapporo, the park hosts a wide array of colorful events throughout the year. Especially in winter, it becomes the venue for the Sapporo Snow Festival, where numerous snow and ice sculptures are displayed, attracting visitors from all over and creating a lively atmosphere.

Not only is Odori Park scenic, but it is also very accessible. The park is directly connected to Sapporo Station, which serves as a major transportation hub for JR trains, subways, city buses, and sightseeing buses, providing easy access to all parts of Hokkaido.
