Birthplace of Ramen Street
Birthplace of Ramen Street is located at 5-3-8 Minami 5, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, and is a must-visit place to try the most authentic Sapporo ramen. Among Sapporo’s delicacies, ramen is the most famous. Sapporo ramen not only has a rich and flavorful broth, but its noodles are also firm and springy, offering a satisfying chew — it is one of Hokkaido’s three great ramen varieties, ranked alongside Kitakata ramen and Hakata ramen as one of Japan’s top three ramen styles.
Birthplace of Ramen Street is a small alley just tens of meters long, world-renowned for serving the most authentic Sapporo ramen. The alley has a history of 30 years, having grown from its original 7–8 ramen shops and a few taverns to nearly 20 establishments today, gradually evolving into a dedicated ramen street. The most famous offering here is miso ramen, a new variety developed by the ramen shop “Ajitsune.” With its approachable taste, it swept across Japan and became one of the country’s three most popular ramen styles, attracting people from all over to come and taste it. Especially in the cold winter months, there’s nothing better than a steaming bowl of rich, flavorful Sapporo ramen.
