Guanyin Lotus Garden

Introduction

Guanyin Lotus Garden is one of Macau’s distinctive architectural landmarks, located on an artificial island opposite Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the New Port Area. It is the final piece in the Sino-Portuguese Friendship Monuments series. The Lotus Garden can be considered a Buddhist cultural center. The murals inside the garden were jointly created by two Macanese painters, Kwok Wun and Hu Ru. In order to more fully reflect the philosophical and cultural thoughts of the East, the painters vividly depicted the ideologies of the “Three Teachings”—Buddhism (Guanyin as the Bodhisattva), Confucianism (Confucius), and Taoism (Laozi)—in the murals.
