Cherry Blossom Viewing by MRT: Pink Blossoms at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Taiwan has gradually entered cherry blossom season, and many popular spots often get crowded on weekends and holidays. If you prefer not to spend too much time hiking in the mountains but still want an easy, convenient trip via MRT, the cherry blossom grove at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a great urban choice for spring flower viewing.

The cherry blossoms at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall typically bloom around early March and reach full bloom by mid-March. Visitors eager to see the blossoms should plan their visit soon. With over 200 cherry trees blooming successively and 11 different varieties on display, the scenery captivates both domestic and international tourists.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is one of the must-visit attractions for foreign tourists in Taiwan. Many are impressed by the main memorial building, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Archway, and the National Theater and National Concert Hall on either side. However, the garden landscaping around the hall is rarely mentioned — and that’s where the cherry blossom beauty lies.

On the right side of Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, near the Daxiao Gate, there is a large area of Shuuzenji Kanzan Zakura with soft, lovely pink hues. Moving to the back of the main hall, you can admire Oyama Zakura, Kawazu Zakura, and a vast field of mountain cherry trees. On the left side of the hall, near the Dazhong Gate, you’ll find Ohanami Zakura.

The garden on the Aiguo East Road side features vividly colored Yaezakura. Among the cherry groves, visitors eagerly capture the beautiful blossoms with their cameras and phones. The flower bed at the rainwater collection area features a stone monument inscribed with “Friendship Cherry Blossoms,” where seven varieties of Japanese cherry blossoms are planted. The large lawns on both sides of the felt flower beds are home to two types of cherry trees: Sunshine and Kawazu Zakura.
