【Video Available】Asia’s Tallest Indoor Slide Lands in Kaohsiung!

I once stayed at Taichung’s most fun hotel—Red Dot Design Hotel, where the two-story spiral slide in the lobby was a favorite among almost all guests. But lately, it seems to be overshadowed by this “tallest indoor slide in all of Asia” at Kaohsiung’s National Science and Technology Museum.

This three-dimensional spiral slide, which has been exhibited at London’s Tate Modern in the UK, is a whopping 46 meters long and 18 meters high. It goes straight from the fourth floor down to the basement level one, taking as little as 12 seconds at top speed—equating to roughly 67 km/h. The slide, which cost nearly five million Hong Kong dollars to build, is primarily made of stainless steel, so you must wear a special fabric sack before you can ride.

The cylindrical, semi-transparent design allows riders to still see outside, but you’re likely to be going too fast to take much in before it’s all over. The biggest surprise? Riders say it’s so thrilling it creates a centrifugal force effect—even those who are scared want to go again. However, the museum hopes that while having fun, visitors can also learn about physical principles such as gravity and friction.
