Ruohemen Gate

Ruohemen Gate is located in the reclaimed area of Macau’s Sai Van Bay. The gate was designed by Portuguese sculptor artist Lagoa Henriques. Constructed by the Portuguese-funded Teixeira Duarte construction company, the project had a total cost of over 28 million yuan, commenced in February 1993, and was completed in September. "Ruohemen Gate" consists of four 40-meter-high pillars, paired and interlinked. The pillars are made of steel frames with concrete infill; their surfaces are covered with black granite and Portuguese-style cobblestones. Spotlights are installed around the structure, illuminating the entire building beautifully at night, attracting many visitors. There are also benches provided for tourists to rest.

Ruohemen Gate is situated 60 meters offshore from the Sai Van Bund, connected to the land by both vehicle and pedestrian pathways. The view at sunset is particularly spectacular, making it a very beautiful scenic attraction.

The design of Ruohemen Gate is abstract, representing heaven, earth, water, and strength, and symbolizing peace and love. Some believe the gate resembles clasped palms, signifying the friendship between China and Portugal.
